Now that the sun is out and the temperatures are warm, you can begin tackling your home maintenance checklist.

Over the last year, your list of to-do home projects has probably grown and, if you’re like most homeowners, your property maintenance checklist hasn’t gotten any smaller. Thankfully, summer provides the ideal weather and time to get these jobs done. So, for the days you’re not lounging at the lake or firing up the barbecue, here’s what you can do.

A Complete Summer Maintenance Checklist for Your House

The elements and storms that come with fall, winter, and spring can wreak havoc on your property, and taking time to get things back in order will keep your home looking and functioning its best. Here’s a complete summer maintenance list of what you can do now:

Pressure Wash and Inspect the Exterior of Your House — Give your home a good spray down so you can effectively inspect the exterior of your property for damage. Also, check your windows and caulking.

Make Exterior Repairs ASAP — If you find holes, leaks, or any other sign of damage, make sure to get it repaired as soon as possible.

Reverse Ceiling Fans — Get a more effective breeze with your ceiling fans by reversing them so they spin counter-clockwise. Then, while you’re up there, you can give them a good cleaning!

Landscape — Pull the weeds, mow and aerate the lawn, trim overgrown trees and bushes, and anything else that your landscaping requires.

Clean Your Washer and Dryer — Many people overlook cleaning their washer and dryer. Don’t forget to give them a good cleaning using water and white vinegar and wipe it dry. Leave your washer open after each use to allow it to dry thoroughly.

Sprinklers — Turn on your sprinkling system and verify everything works well.

Patio and Lawn Gear — Replace and inspect your belongings such as your grill, patio furniture, swing set, and trampoline for damage and repair or replace if necessary.

Spray Your Sidewalks, Patios, Walkways, and Driveways — Sweep and spray down the hard surfaces surrounding your house. This will also allow you to inspect them for any tripping hazards and other things that will need attention.

Swap Your Air Filter — Since you’ll be using your air conditioning unit and want it to function effectively and efficiently, make sure to change your air filter. While you’re at it, you can replace your furnace filter, too.
