Spring Cleaning Tips

 In News

With spring just around the corner, we’re sharing some tips with you to make your spring time cleaning easier and more efficient. There are many household items that can make cleaning quick and easy when used correctly. Take the pain out of cleaning your window pains and the gunk out of your oven with some simple tips below. Happy cleaning!

Kitchen

  • Fridge—to lift those stubborn stains from the surface of your fridge, try cleaning with a combination of salt and baking soda with warm water. Baking soda is a natural cleaning agent that bubbles to fights stains and odors, and salt will create an abrasive texture (like an exfoliant) to scrub away any left over residue. A clean fridge means clean food.
  • Sink—clean off lime build up around the faucet of your sink by laying paper towels soaked with vinegar over the buildup. Let sit for about an hour and wipe away with dish soap and warm water. Make your sink look shiny and new again with minimal effort!
  • Oven—fill a baking dish with 2 c. lemon juice and 2 c. water, place in your oven and bake at 250 degrees F for 30 minutes. Once your 30 minutes are up, remove the dish and allow your oven to cool before scrubbing away whatever is left inside. The lemon and water will evaporate in the heat and the vapors will clear away grime and help to remove some sticky build up.

Windows

  • Buff up—you can get rid of hard water spots with some dryer sheets. Wipe down bathroom mirrors, shower doors, or other glass exposed to water with dryer sheets to get rid of built up water stains.
  • Streak-free windows—clean your windows with one rag and then wipe them down with another. This will keep streak free and crystal clear. Cleaning the surface with just one rag will leave lines and streaks. Even though it means a little more dirty laundry, it is well worth it.
  • Degunk—remove any sticky residue with some rubbing alcohol. If you’d have a stick or something else stick leave an unwanted layer of stickiness on your glass, it can be tough to get rid of with typical glass cleaner. But with a little rubbing alcohol, it’ll rub right off.

Carpet and Upholstery

  • Carpets—invest in carpet cleaning. At least once a year, you should have your carpets cleaned. Either by pros or do it yourself. You can purchase or rent your own carpet cleaner. To avoid having your furniture soak up any moisture, you can remove it from the room or place wax paper underneath its legs.
  • Upholstery—if you want to clean fabric furniture, use baking soda. Sprinkle baking soda on the furniture and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then vacuum it up. If there are stains on the fabric that are not lifted from the baking soda, try using a clean cloth, and a solution of warm water and vinegar to scrub away stains.
